Group 4:MigrantoteMigrantote project is a tote bag designed to help Migrant workers deal with language-barriers by using visual aids. With the collective input from Migrant workers, we will make a bag design that will help them perform their tasks and live with ease in the country they are working in. Currently, there are a lot of migrant workers in Taiwan dealing with this kind of problem. That is why we want to provide an alternative solution for Migrant workers to help improve their mobility in Taiwan. In the end, we hope that this project would be of great help for Migrant workers in Taiwan, as well as Migrant workers outside Taiwan.

Introduction
Migrantote includes the following visual aids and statements in Mandarin:
1. Hospital
Health is always the most important and urgent priority especially when you are not at home so we think that hospital is the most important icon in an emergency. During their stay, some migrants have to go to the hospital for a health check-up so we think it would be helpful.
2. Police officer
When any mishaps like fraud, quarrel or violence, migrant workers can contact police officers to look for help.
3. Bank
Because migrants come to work, they should have their own bank account to keep track of their salary and they can exchange money when they want to go home.
4. Supermarket
This is very helpful for migrant workers who work as caregivers, they would have to go to the market or the supermarket frequently to buy food for the house.
5. Bus stop
Travelling is also an important aspect, there are a lot of bus stops in Taiwan but it is sometimes very confusing, migrants can show the strangers the address they want to go to and point at the bus stop icon to look for instructions.
6. Pharmacy
As important as the hospital, sometimes migrants do not want to waste their money to go to the hospital if they only have mild symptoms so all they need is a pharmacy.
7. Restroom
This icon is very helpful for migrants when they cannot find the restroom sign or when they are out of nowhere on the street.
8. School
Some caretakers have to take children to school and back home but on the journey they might get lost so we think this icon is helpful.
9. Hotel
Under the worst situation when the migrants run away but they still have money with them, they can rent to live before thinking of further solutions.
10. MRT station
This is also necessary like the bus station, MRT in Taiwan especially in Taipei have many entrances
11. Post office
When the migrants want to send something to their friends in Taiwan, they can use postal service, the Chunghwa Postal in Taiwan also offers banking service.
12. Phone call
When they forgot to bring their phone or their boss does not allow them to use one, migrant workers can ask for a public phone or ask others to help them make a phone call.
13. Diner/Restaurant
This is useful when they travel, especially in areas far from the cities
14. Vegetables for indicating vegetarian food
For some caretakers, they themselves or their boss can be vegetarians, and it is very hard to explain, this icon would help.
15. Taxi
When they are in a hurry or when the service hour of public transportation is over, migrants can still look for taxi
16. Charging station
It would be very helpful when the migrants’ phone ran out of battery. Phone is very useful today and we cannot do almost anything without it.
17. Wifi connection
The Internet is essential when you need to search for information or contact your family and friends.
18. Trash bin
There is a fact that it is very hard to find a trash bin in Taiwan when you are on the road. This icon can help migrants to get rid of the trash while protecting the environment.
19. Shopping bags indicating shopping mall
They may want to go shopping at the mall during their days off. Sometimes when the cashier in a convenience store and supermarket asks whether they need a shopping bag or not they can also point at this icon and say no.
20. Airport
They might get lost on their way to the airport so we think this icon would be helpful.
21. National Immigration Agency (NIA)
This is the agency migrants all need to go to get their ARC and do paperwork for their stay in Taiwan so it is very essential for migrants.
22. Ministry of Labour
The Ministry of Labour can solve problems regarding the working environment of labour and they can look for help if there is any injustice.
23. “I cannot speak Chinese”
Language barrier makes us feel shy and troublesome in a foreign country so we hope that migrants can speak out through the tote bag. Not all migrants can speak either Chinese and English so icons are the best language to use.
24. “Thank you!”
This sentence is a very cute way to end the conversation after they are helped by strangers!
