I Fell in Love with Taiwan
Introduction
When speaking about migration in Taiwan, people usually stress the presence of migrant workers from Southeast Asia and neighboring countries. While migrant workers in Taiwan also migrate from different places, whether from Africa, Central and South America, and also the Caribbean. The majority of the Caribbean migrants in Taiwan came here via scholarship opportunities offered by organizations such as the International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF), or Government institutions such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), and even the Universities themselves. Traveling to the other side of the world is such a drastic and life-changing moment for many of these students. Language barrier, cultural differences, the food and most importantly being so far away from family and friends can be considered as major issues faced by these migrants. We wanted to highlight those migrants, and to do so, we conducted an interview with some of the students who decided to stay after graduation to work, to create their own businesses, or even have the privilege to hold an APRC (Alien Permanent Residence Certificate). We hope that these video and posters can help you discover those migrants and their stories that need to be hear.
