Leaving your roots behind
Introduction
Our project’s purpose was to bring awareness to Taiwanese students on campus about the struggles that international students face when coming to Taiwan and the ways these individuals might try to fit in, based on the term of cultural assimilation (process in which a minority group or culture comes to resemble a society's majority group or assume the values, behaviors, and beliefs of another group whether fully or partially) as our project idea. After we interviewed these students we were able to learn a lot about their cultural backgrounds, day to day life in Taiwan, and their attempts to fit into a new society. In conclusion, our project was able to give an idea of how diversified Taiwan is when it comes to culture and communicate the stories of students that represent the five biggest groups of immigrants that Taiwan has(Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Philippines). In order to present it concretely, a house model is designed which implies Taiwan and it embraces different races to form a diversified society.
